Most Android games only cost a few dollars, and I'll say up front that Neon Chrome is not one of them. It costs a whopping $10, but it's absolutely worth that amount of money. This top-down, dual-stick shooter is the best shooter I've ever seen on a mobile device. There are around 20 levels of action, including some wild boss battles. The best part: Neon Chrome has infinite replayability because the levels are different every time.
Neon Chrome has a roguelike element, so you have to start all over when you die. However, the resources gathered while playing can unlock new abilities for your next run. There are also many different weapons and classes in the game that suit varying play styles. If you want to sneak up on enemies and pin them down, there are loadouts perfectly suited to that. Want to run in, guns blazing? You can do that too.
This game has a delicious 'outrun' visual style with lots of homages to 1980s cyberpunk. The graphics are impressive, and it runs well. That $10 price tag unlocks the whole gameāno in-app purchases to be found. If you are looking for a game you'll actually want to play even if you've got a computer or console around, grab Neon Chrome.

My Top 10 List of Android Games - 2017
I install, play and delete a tonne of games on my phone (running a OnePlus5) and not many manage to pass muster and remain on the device for any period of time. Here is a list of the ones that have managed to maintain their longevity and playability so far in 2017:
- 10 - Cosmic Express Superb puzzle game, relaxing and lovely presentation.
- 9 - Eternium Diablo clone, well made and fun to play.
- 8 - Last Day On Earth Wilderness survival with crafting, building etc. Similar to Don't Starve in gameplay.
- 7 - Galaxy on Fire 3 (the series is superb though) Absolutely beautiful space shooter. Cannot recommend enough.
- 6 - Sorcery 1, 2, 3 and 4 Old school choose your adventure style RPG. Mostly fully voiced, with a very well written story. Has devoured a lot of train journeys.
- 5 - Mage Gauntlet/Wayward Souls 2D roguelike dungeon explorer with super tight controls and lovely pixelised graphics.
- 4 - Lara Croft GO/Hitman GO Isometric puzzle solving with the polish only SquareEnix can bring to the table. Both 80% off now too.
- 3 - Card Thief Weirdly addictive roguelike card game. Can't really explain it, but it's stealth action with.. cards.
- 2 - Hearthstone Don't think I need to explain what this is.
- 1 - Arena of Valor First mobile game I have put 100+ hours into. Beautiful graphics, tight as heck controls, super expensive micro-transactions (honestly they are a joke) but the game gives you so many free heroes you don't really need to ever look at the shop, and now an esports scene too. Games gonna blow up in the near future as it launches globally (currently only available in Europe). Basically it's League of Legends without last hitting, on mobile. Try out Vain Glory if you can't access Arena of Valor, another excellent MOBA on mobile.
Honorable mentions
So what do you guys and gals think? Care to share your favorites too? Always on the lookout for the next big thing to play while I am sending Madame Brown to the south pool. Worth noting that Paladins, the moderately popular Overwatch clone is launching a mobile version which looks like it could be awesome. Currently in alpha sign up stage here
